Why Gap Jobs?
The experience of a lifetime
- You can do both a Placement + Adventure, choosing your destination and a range of start dates for a unique experience. It means you can spend valued time on a placement before doing further travel to experience more landscapes, taste different foods and explore the region.
- Because all Gap Jobs volunteers stay together in a house, youíll be living with a group of enthusiastic, energetic people and itís a great way to make lifelong friends!
- From the moment you land the UK trained Gap Jobs CREW are with you throughout your experience. Our crew live in the Gap Jobs house, making sure youíre happy, healthy, and working hard. Well-travelled, passionate and knowledgeable, our overseas crew are leaders, organisers, and friends. We wouldnít go anywhere without them!
“Our crew were both amazing. They are people who would always listen, help and understand. They solved problems, made sure we were happy, were very well organised and above all became good friends.”
Magalee Nahas, Peru
“The group leader made the adventure what it was, his relaxed attitude and previous experience of world travel made the entire experience much more enjoyable.”
Chris O’Toole, Kenya 2003
“Gemma was fantastic throughout the project. Nothing was ever a problem and it was good to know we had excellent support out here.” James Gifford, Kenya
- Gap Jobs supports the Mad Foundation, which contributes to a variety of educational and health care initiatives, such as providing educational scholarships for children overseas. Everyone at Gap Jobs HQ is also encouraged to give 10% of their office time to help organise events that promote the Mad Foundation. As much money as possible is spent within the local economy on accommodation, employing cooks and drivers, using local transport and buying local food.
- The security and safety of our volunteers and crew is vital to us which is why we have a full TRAVEL SAFE programme to prevent and solve problems on any scale.
- With Gap Jobs you become part of the global MOTTEY TRIBE. Each year the tribe gather on the banks of the river Tyne in Newcastle for the Mad World Ball to celebrate all of the year's projects in style.
- The Gap Jobs experience can highlight What You Want To Do, provide another outlook on life at home, or maybe inspire ideas for the future.
ìBefore I went to Uganda I doubted whether medicine was really what I wanted to do, by the time I got back I knew there was nothing else Iíd rather do.î
Luke Horsley volunteered in Uganda
- There is an opportunity for you to do some travel or re-charge your batteries at the WEEKENDS, when there is a break from the placement.
- Both parts of the experience present New and Exciting Challenges that will develop you as an individual. Itís about going to new places (where the climate, culture, and diet is different) & meeting new people (where the language is new).
- Travel to ANOTHER WORLD. Timbuktu, Machu Picchu, Kilimanjaro, the SerengettiÖSure you can visit these places with Gap Jobs but you can also travel past the postcard image of the country to places far off the tourist trail to learn about another way of life.
- With 2 comprehensive pre-departure packs, phone and email support, the well-travelled Gap Jobs UK team are there to make sure you Go Prepared for your time away.
