Health, Care & Medicine in Uganda
The structured development of journalism is of vital importance in the successful development of countries such as Uganda and is too precious a medium to leave unnoticed. In order for the media to reach its full potential however it requires outside funding and assistance with fresh ideas and knowledge to help direct and mould the shape it will go on to take. The importance and power of the written word is particularly pertinent in developing countries where the nation’s poor infrastructure limits the transmission of this information by alternative means.
The placements in Jinja offer exciting opportunities to working in both radio and newspaper journalism; with the added opportunity to promote journalism through schools. This placement has been set up in such a way that you can put together a personal and individual programme based upon your own interests and preferences. The opportunities available to you aim both to give you the experience of private sector journalism in Uganda; and for you to contribute to the quality, level and type of information and media that is produced. The newspaper journalism placement is currently in the branch of a daily, national newspaper where can assist journalists with articles, research and advertising. For the radio journalism work you may find yourself involved in every stage of the process, helping to research, prepare and present broadcasts on the air and to run the technology involved in the process.
A third option for you, should you wish, could be to spend some time at one of the local schools running journalism related classes and extra-curricular activities. A school magazine could be set-up and run under your guidance.
