Teaching in Ghana Ghana Case Studies - Katie Beverley Health, Care & Medicine in Ghana Journalism in Ghana Gap Jobs is based in the Volta Regional Capital, Ho, a fantastic base from which to explore this lush and mountainous region, home to the country’s tallest waterfall and highest peak. Ho is a relatively large town and has a large market, tro-tro and bus station, a good internet café, two hotels with swimming pools that are open to daily visitors, and a number of chop bars (local ‘restaurants’), spot bars (to buy a cold soft drinks or beers), small shops and stalls that sell all the necessary essentials.
Your teaching placement will be in one of three schools in Ho. Subjects offered are similar to those in our own curriculum, and the subjects you teach will be based around your own interests. Under-funding, lack of resources and teacher shortages are just some of the factors which inhibit the delivery of a comprehensive education system in West Africa, despite progress made in education following the introduction by the government of the Education Reform Programme in 1987 and the implementation of FCUBE (Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education) between 1996-2005.
