![]() Jessi Watts Raised £1500 - here’s how! What were you fundraising for?I needed to fundraise to be able to go away with Madventurer to go to Ghana to be a Mad builder. How did you do it? I decided to shave my head. Normally I would have entered a half marathon or something like that, here in UK or at home in Dubai but due to a nerve problem in my foot at that time that was out of the question. I needed something that would promote people to give generously, that wouldn’t take much time and would generally be beneficial. I planned to have it done in the Union of Newcastle University and the union hairdresser would do it for free. The hair once shaved off would go to the only wig company in England that still accepts Human hair and hopefully turned into a wig (I received a cheque for £6 from them after I sent a pile of long blonde hair in a Tesco bag!). Was it successful? In the end I raised about £1,500. A lot of people did not believe I would do it, and people did give generously, especially on the day as more and more people turned up to watch it happen. I loved the feeling of having it done (like an amazing head massage) and don’t regret it – although some people can be rude about a shaven headed girl. Could you give any advice or suggestions to someone else who is planning to fundraise? I wanted to go in the first year at Newcastle University but couldn’t afford it and so I decided to do it the year after. So set a reasonable time frame, it’s worth it! Plus it’s common sense – make it fun not a chore!
